2024 PIANOFORTE COMPETITIONS

2024 Adjudicator - Richard Liu
Richard Liu, born in Taiwan, is a NZ based pianist, collaborative musician, teacher, adjudicator, and examiner. He has performed in NZ, UK, Europe, Taiwan and Singapore. He has collaborated with various artists, Auckland Youth Orchestra, Auckland Symphony Orchestra, Opus Orchestra, Waitakere Orchestra, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, NZ Opera, Voices NZ, Auckland Choral, University Singers, Key Signature Cygnetures Choir and others. Has was an artistic teacher in performance piano, chamber music, studio piano pedagogy, voice coach, assistant to Head of Voice and assistant to Head of Strings at the University of Auckland. He taught piano, piano performance class and chamber music at the previous University of Auckland Music Academy for Secondary School Students and Pettman National Junior Academy of Music. He was Piano Co-Head at Chiron Music Academy. His students have been accepted into MMus in Piano Performance at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music, Royal Scotland College of Music, BMus in Piano Performance at Manhattan School of Music, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Royal Welsh Academy of Music, Singapore Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, and University of Auckland School of Music. These students have also been awarded Hayden Staple Scholarship, various UoA scholarships, Pettman scholarship, Chiron senior and junior scholarship, Music Scholarship at Saint Kentigern College, Diocesan School for Girls, St Cuthbert, and Rangitoto College. Student competition success include Runner-up and People’s Choice in the National Young Musician of the Year, KBB National Secondary School Chamber Music Prize, Second Place and Best Performance of a Classical Sonata in the Lewis Eady National Junior Piano Competition, Best Performace of a NZ Work in the Lewis Eady National Senior Piano Competition, Gold Medals and Class Winner in various age categories of the Ming Classics Festival & Academy Online Competition Switzerland, And various regional competition prizes in NZ. Richard is now running his own private teaching studio, teacher training, coaching in the community, adjudicating competitions and examining for NZMEB |
